1761 COMMISSION SIGNED BY KING GEORGE III AND WILLIAM PITT

$1,295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 565-107

This is a wonderful commission on vellum for Cornet “William Elliot, gentleman” to serve in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons. Document also has original seal. The King signed the document in the upper left hand corner “George R” for George Rex. Signature is very good and very readable. Mr. Pitt signed the document at bottom “W. Pitt.” His signature is still bold.  Document was signed at the St. James palace on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1761, the first year of King George’s reign. Item is framed and meas. approx. 20.50 x 19.25.

The 6th Inniskilling Dragoons was raised in 1689 and saw service for three centuries in the British Army. During the time the commission dates from the regiment was serving on the European Continent during The Seven Years War which was known to us as The French and Indian War. Some internet research did show the name Elliot associated with this regiments officer corps prior to the date on this commission and sometime later during the Crimean War. Proper research by someone familiar with British military records may turn up information on the William Elliot named in the document. (565-107) $1295.00
