This notice reads, “The Commissioners of Salem will meet at the Commissioner’s Hall, on Friday evening, July 15th, 1892, to receive bids for a Sanitary Policeman to serve the remainder of the year.” It continues to list the health and safety regulations for the town which include, disposal of dead animals, old food and refuse. The fines are listed for non-compliance.

J.H. Stockton was the Mayor of Salem from 1892-93. The town of Salem merged with Winston in 1913.  [sm]
