Circa 1760, black and white lithograph from unknown 18th French military publication, measuring 9.5 x 6.5”, double matted in black and beige, mounted in handsomely trimmed contemporary frame measuring 15.25 x 12.25”, w/reverse white card backing & hangwire. The lithograph exhibits one small, unobtrusive .25” hole and one miniscule smudge. Else VG plus to fine.
The lithograph, numbered “153 115. Planche”, depicts a Pre-Napoleonic French grenadier demonstrating the techniques of lighting and throwing the grenade. Step “a” :[“Feu a la Grenade”] to the left, step “b” [“Jette’s La Grenade.”] to the right. Excellent 18th Century military print.
Note: One of our customers believes that this plate is from Traite des Armes by Pierre Jacques Francois Girard, circa 1740. The complete work contains 116 plates, and is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful military books published in the 18th century.
