This highly detailed, original engraving is a mid-18^th century paper artifact from a French fencing classic titled “Traite des Armes, dedie au Roy” completed by well known French artist P.J.F. Giraurd (Girard) of Paris between 1737 and 1740.   Giraurd was an Ancien Officier de Marine (former French Naval officer) and artist who sketched a number of pictorial illustrations on sword fencing / fighting movements.  In excellent condition, this original image is numbered by page (#136), made of thin paper that measures 8¼” x 10¾” with the pictorial done in black and white. A small note included with the image is titled “Fixing a Bayonet”. Image is professionally mounted to an acid-free, double mat but is not framed.  Image depicts two infantrymen in drill. Across the upper edge of the image is inscription in French describing the movements.   A fine piece ready for framing.
