This is an old print in the original mat and frame. Overall measurements are approx. 14.50 x 12.00 inches. The print itself shows both the State and National colors of the 5th New York Heavy Artillery. The State color has the Coat of Arms of New York at top. Beneath this is a scroll with “5th Artillery N.Y.S.V.V.” Below this are crossed cannons and at the very bottom is another scroll that reads “Presented by the City of New York.” The National color has the unit designation on the centermost red stripe with the following battle honors on the stripes above and below it:
Harpers Ferry Sept. 13th, 14th, & 15th ‘62
Piedmont VA. June 5th ’64
Lexington VA. June 14th ’64

At the top center, between the colors, is a 6 pointed star surrounded by the inscription “5th New York Heavy Artillery Veteran Association.” Under the State color is “Organized” and under the National color is “Oct. 19, 1878,” The mat is severely water stained. The print itself appears to be very clean.
This regiment served in the various forts around New York City and then Washington, D.C. before entering the field as infantry in 1864. The battle honors listed above tell of the regiments’ campaigns.
