MODEL 1851 COLT NAVY MADE IN LATE 1852 - SOME FINISH REMAINING

$2,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 798-35

Original Third Model version of the popular 1851 Colt Navy Revolver in very nice overall condition.

Manufactured sometime in the 4th quarter of 1852, this M1851 Navy bears matching serial number #11960 marked on all of its components, however the wedge is blank. Weapon has a six-shot cylinder and features an octagonal 7½” long barrel with attached working loading lever. Barrel has 60% of the blue remaining and a crisp maker’s address that reads “ADDRESS SAM’L COLT NEW YORK CITY”. Frame and cylinder have a dark patina. Left side of the frame has a good “COLT’S PATENT” stamping.

Mechanics are temperamental. Half cock safety works well and the cylinder spins free as it should. Full cock can be stiff now and then and indexing is good but can be a hair off at times. Cylinder bears 40% of the roll-engraved naval engagement scene between the Republic of Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy. Cylinder has an area of pitting on one side. All six of the original nipples are strong, not chipped or broken. Frame screws are good, only one shows some buggering. The original, one-piece varnished walnut grips are in good condition with some light wear on sides and moderate dings at bottom. Much of the silver wash on the trigger guard and underside of the grip frame remains.

Colts of any type are getting harder to come by and this one is a very nice example. [ad] [ph:L]
