PAINTING OF A CONFEDERATE CAVALRYMAN BY FAMED SUPERMAN / BATMAN ARTIST FRED RAY

$2,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 141-105

This acrylic on artist board work was the cover art for the November 1968 issue of Civil War Times Illustrated.  A copy of that issue comes with the painting.  Fred Ray is best known for his work on the early Superman and Batman comics.  In 2017, original art for one of his Superman covers brought $77,675 at auction.  Others have gone as high as $195,500.  Unfortunately neither Superman nor Batman appear in this painting so the price is considerably lower.  Mr. Ray served as art director for both Civil War Times Illustrated and American History Illustrated and was also the creator of the Tomahawk comic series.  A veteran of World War II, he died in 2001.  A fine piece of illustration art in the original frame and ready to hang on the wall of your relic room.  Size is 18” x 24”; frame measures 22” x 28”.  [DG]
