Full standing pencil sketch of an unidentified 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry Private. The subject is shown standing by a chair. He wears the distinctive shell jacket that is known to have only been worn by the 15th Pennsylvania. The jacket has a low collar that has one button and piping on each side. Down nine-button front are two parallel row of piping. The subject also wears a dark vest and trousers. In his left hand he holds a forage cap with cavalry insignia with an indistinct Company letter and regimental number.
The sketch is well done with great detail and is signed Franklin Shin or Shinn. Nothing is known of the artist. Sketch is in overall excellent condition.
The period wood frame meas. approx. 17.25 x 21.25 and has edges that are approx.2.50 inches wide with an interior gold border. The backing has been replaced by modern framing paper. [ad]
