Early 20th century watercolor by C.D. Mahood features the four flags of the Confederacy- the Third National, the Second National (known as the “Stainless Banner”), the First National and the Confederate Battle Flag. Colors are brilliant and much detail was implemented in this painting, such as the shadow of the flags in the background. This painting is based on the well-known “Flags of the Confederacy” print that was also sold as postcards.
Watercolor measures 10 ½” x 12”. Textured mat is beveled and measures 1 ½” on sides x 1 ¾” at the top and bottom. Inner beveled matting in red is a nice accent with the colors in the flags. Painting is housed in a nice brass frame that measures 16” x 18”. Frame is in excellent condition. Reverse has wire for hanging purposes. [sm]
