This interesting General Orders document is numbered 113 and outlines directives for volunteers prior to conscription.
The order reads:
“ADJUTANT AND INSPECTOR GENERAL’S OFFICE
Richmond, August 18, 1863.
GENERAL ORDERS,
No. 113
By order.
S. COOPER
Adjutant and Inspector General.
The document itself is in good condition with two small slits/holes from having been bound at one time. Some light staining is present along the right side that continues onto the reverse side and there is wear to both right corners – none of which detracts from the rarity of the piece or its subject matter. The measurements are 8” x 5.15”.
A rare remnant of the Confederacy’s draft/conscription program that would be a unique feature of most any collection. [cm][ph:L]
