“The proprietors of the New Orleans True Delta, having refused to print the Proclamation of the Major-General commanding this Department, the publication of that paper is suspended until further orders / Major General Butler.”

One of a series of orders by Butler upon becoming the military governor of Louisiana following the capture of New Orleans in late April 1862, the most notorious of which was the order proclaiming that New Orleans women disrespectful of Union troops would be treated as “ladies of the town plying their trade.” In protective sleeve.  [jp][ph:L]
