Pre-printed document filled out in ink. Document meas. approx. 8.25 x 5.25 inches and is in very nice condition. The piece is dated February 26, 1866 in Bedford County, Virginia and is signed by John T. Bowyer and witnessed by the clerk of the Bedford County Court, A.A. Arthur.
John T. Bowyer was born in 1841 in Bedford County, Virginia.
He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 34th Virginia Infantry on May 14, 1862. He was present throughout most of his service missing a few days in the hospital in June and July of 1862. The 34th served in the deep south until October 1864 when it joined the Army of Northern Virginia seeing action at Petersburg, Sailor’s Creek and Appomattox.
Bowyer died in Bedford County, Virginia on February 14, 1935 and is buried in the Bowyer family cemetery in Thaxton, Virginia.
