Set of documents belonging to William R. Alexander of Co. “B”, 39th New Jersey Infantry. He was born in Ireland, enlisted on September 5, 1864 as a Private, then was discharged on May 18, 1865.
Documents include Alexander’s G.A.R. membership certificate, State of New Jersey Adjutant General certificate and letter, a jeweler receipt, referral letter for employment attesting to Alexander’s character, receipt for G.A.R. membership with envelope, and a post- death State of New Jersey Essex County Surrogate’s Office letter stating the administrator of Alexander’s estate.
Papers have yellowed with age, show wrinkle creases and very small tears and chips at the edges. [SL]
