“On the first day of January 1873, the Confederate States of America will pay to the bearer of this Bond, at the seat of Government, or such place of deposit as may be appointed by the Secretary of Treasury, the sum of ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS with interest there on from this date, payable at the same time at the same place, semi-annually, at the rate of Eight per cent Annum, on the surrender of annexed warrants or coupons. This debt is authorized by an Act of Congress approved August 19, 1861, entitled “An Act to Authorize the issue of Treasury Notes and to provide a War Tax for their redemption” Signed by / __ Tyler /Register of the Treasurer.
Immediately below are 10 printed coupons, 2.25” x 1.25. Text: “C.S. Loan—Aug. 19, 1863 /The Confederate States of America / Will Pay to the Bearer / Four Dollars / For Six Months Interest, Due [at six months intervals, each July 1st and January 1st, for five years running from 1868 to 1873] On bond No. 268 [in ink] for $100 / For the Register of the Treasury / [Signed] For the Register of the Treasury / [in ink] H. Starke”
