This item is a very nice conditioned non-dug Army General Staff Officer’s coat button. The number of arrows being held by the eagle varies. On this button the eagle holds five arrows in the right talon showing button was made in the 1830’s or 1840’s.
The low to medium convex face is in good condition with much gilt remaining. There are no dents or creases. Rim is good with light surface dirt.
Reverse has shank and depressed mark of “W. H. HORSTMANN / PHILADELPHIA.”
Overall appearance of button is bright.
