This convex two-piece, brass 23mm version of the South Carolina State shield device was produced by the button manufacturing firm of STEEL & JOHNSON during the years 1860-1865. The vendors name of HORSTMANN & ALLIEN NY is located on the reverse side in depressed letter markings between two rings, with an inner ring of rays.
CONDITION: No pushes or dents on the obverse side, Shank slightly twisted, overall light patina surface.
