Oval bust view of Harper in uniform with captain’s shoulder straps. Clear image with good contrast. Mount has printed oval “picture frame.” Period ink signature on back (slightly trimmed), “Capt Peter Harper, Co D 99th U.S.C.T.” No photographer’s backmark.
From Bloomington IL, he enlisted on 4/20/1861 as a Sergeant in Company "G" 4th Wisconsin Cavalry. He was discharged for promotion on 8/2/1863 at New Orleans, LA, and commissioned as Captain in Company "D" 99th U.S.C.T. Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 4/23/1866. [jet] [ph:L]
