Hardbound volume titled “A GALAXY OF SOUTHERN HEROES AND OTHER POEMS” by Orion T. Dozier, M.D. and published in Birmingham, Alabama in 1905. Book meas. approx. 5.25 x 7.25. Covers are red cloth with embossed plant in a Grecian vase done in black with the title in gold on the front. Title also done in gold on the spine. Covers show only light wear on edges and one small spot of discoloration.
Interior runs 304 pages. Binding is tight and pages are clean. Front has portrait of author as well as a photograph of his home and a nice color lithograph of the Stars & Bars flag.
Very first page is inscribed in period ink with “TO MISS AUGUSTS E. WILSON WITH COMPLIMENTS OF THE AUTHOR O. T. DOZIER.” [ad]
The picture of Dozier that appears in the book shows him wearing a Southern Cross of Honor and an online obituary says that he served throughout the war in Company A of the 2nd Georgia but research failed to turn up any military record.
