Title page reads “THE TWENTY-FOURTH MICHIGAN OF THE IRON BRIGADE” by Donald L. Smith and published by The Stackpole Company of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1962.
Hardcover is nicely bound in sky-blue cloth with the torn and worn regimental colors done in blue ink on the front. Title and author is on the spine in dark blue ink. Covers are excellent. Illustrated dustjacket is in excellent condition and wrapped in Mylar. This is really in remarkable condition for its age.
Volume meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs 312 pages with roster and index. The book has 8 black & white photographs of members of the regiment and 10 maps.
Binding is excellent and the interior is super clean. Pages have just the slightest hint of age.
The 24th Michigan Infantry is one of the most famous regiments of the Civil War. They served with the famous Iron Brigade and suffered heavy losses at Gettysburg suffering 358 casualties. They were organized on August 15, 1862 at Detroit and served with the Army of the Potomac from October of 1862 through the end of the war and took part in most of the major campaigns of that army.
