This title was originally published in paperback but a collector has long ago added a hardcover binding to protect the volume.

The front cover reads “THE CHILD’S FIRST BOOK BY CAMPBELL AND DUNN. APPROVED BY THE EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF VIRGINIA THROUGH THEIR COMMITTEE.” The book was published by Ayers and Wade of Richmond, Virginia in 1864.

The hardcovers that now hold the original paperbound publication are gray in color and are unmarked.

The paper cover of the original book is in good condition and has minor surface dirt from age and use. The volume meas. approx. 4.50 x 7.25 inches and runs 48 pages.

Binding is very good. Paper has toned with age and has some minor foxing. The book contains several very brief one paragraph stories, short prayers, several letter charts and some line drawings.

Back cover of this item has advertising for other publications to include “THE SOUTHERN ILLUSTRATED NEWS” and “THE WAR & ITS HEROES.”  [ad][ph:L]
