This title was part of The Virginia Regimental Histories Series produced by H. E. Howard during the 1980’s and ‘90’s.
This second edition was written by Robert E. L. Krick and was published in 1985.
Volume meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs 119 pages with roster and thirteen black and white photographs and several maps.
Hardcover is gray cloth with the title and the great seal of the Confederacy embossed in gold on the front cover. Title and author repeated on the spine. Covers are excellent.
Binding is excellent. Page edges have yellowed some with age.
The 40th Virginia was raised in May 30, 1861 and served in the Departments of Fredericksburg and Richmond as well as with A. P. Hill’s, Heth’s and G.W.C. Lee’s Division in the Army of Northern Virginia. They were present for many of the larger campaigns of that army from Peninsula to Appomattox. [ad][ph:L]
