Full title of this hardcover volume is “HISTORY OF THE BUCKTAILS. KANE RIFLE REGIMENT OF THE PENNSYLVANIA RESERVE CORPS (13TH PENNSYLVANIA RESERVES, 42ND OF THE LINE)” by O. R. Howard Thompson and William H. Rauch.
Volume meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs 466 pages with roster and index. Book was published in Philadelphia in 1906.
Green cloth covers are wrapped in Mylar and are in good condition for their age. The title is embossed in gold on the front and is repeated with the author’s name on the spine. Covers show some rubbing. Inside back cover has tipped in maps for Droop Mountain and White Sulphur Springs.
Interior is clean. Page edges show some yellowing from age. Binding is excellent. Front and back signatures are good. Second blank page is stamped “Admiral Reynolds Post No. 405, Dept. Pa G.A.R.” Endpapers show light wear.
Volume has 16 black & white illustrations.
The regiment served in several different Corps of the Army of the Potomac and saw action on the Peninsula, 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Totopotomoy. During their service they lost 13 officers and 239 enlisted men killed, died of wounds and disease.
