The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE FORTY-EIGHTH REGIMENT MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER MILITIA DURING THE CIVIL WAR.”
The author is Albert Plummer who served as a sergeant in Company B of the regiment. The book was published in Boston in 1907.
Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.25 x 9.25 inches and runs 133 pages with roster and 18 portraits.
Covers are red with the title embossed in strong gold within a gold square. Title and author’s name is written in period ink on the spine. Both front and back covers are good and show only light wear. Binding is excellent. Interior is very clean.
The 48th Massachusetts was raised in October of 1862 and served nine months with the 19th Corps during the siege of Port Hudson and at Donaldsonville. The regiment was mustered out on September 3, 1863 having lost 2 officers and 67 men killed, wounded and died of disease. [AD] [PH:L]
