Hardcover book meas. approx. 5.50 x 7.75 inches. Front cover has a gold embossed title in the upper left hand corner with an illustration of marching soldiers in the lower right. Title is boldly stamped in gold on the spine. Covers show moderate surface dirt and light wear.

Interior runs 222 pages and has numerous woodcut illustrations. Pages have darkened slightly along the edges with age. Binding is good.

The book was written by Edward Anderson who entered the army as Chaplain of the 37th Illinois Infantry on September 18, 1861. He served with his regiment at Pea Ridge and resigned on April 25, 1862.

Anderson’s next service was as Colonel of the 12th Indiana Cavalry with which he served until mustered out at Vicksburg, Mississippi on November 10, 1865. During his time the regiment was lightly engaged in Alabama and Tennessee.

After the war he became Chaplain–in-Chief for the GAR.

Anderson’s book relates 31 interesting and humorous stories of soldier life. [ad]
