The full title of this volume is “THE TRIBUTE BOOK: A RECORD OF THE MUNIFICENCE, SELF-SACRIFICE AND PATRIOTISM OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DURING THE WAR FOR THE UNION” by Frank B. Goodrich and published by Derby & Miller of New York.
The volume meas. approx. 7.75 x 11.25 and runs 512 pages with 147 woodcut illustrations. Volume is hardbound in a thick brown leather that has held up well over the years. The front and back covers have the same wonderful tooled scroll decorative border in gold with the title embossed at center inside a filigreed circle. The spine is divided by five raised binding bands with gold decoration enclosing each section. The title and author is among the decorations on the spine but there is a heavy amount of wear from rubbing on the spine. The covers also show signs of rubbing but the covers are tight despite the wear.
This volume has chapters on Early Aid Societies, the United States Sanitary Commission, Aid Societies Auxiliary to the Sanitary Commission, Sanitary Fairs, the Western Sanitary Commissions, The Christian Commission, National Freedman’s Relief, The American Union Commission and several others associations.
It is a very impressive and heavy volume. [ad]
