The full title of this volume is “THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL: A RECORD OF THE LIFE, ASSASSINATION, AND OBSEQUIES OF THE MARTYRED PRESIDENT.” It was published by Bunce & Huntington in New York in 1865. The volume runs 288 pages with a frontispiece engraving of Mr. Lincoln and the log cabin in Kentucky that was once his home.
The book is bound in green cloth with a gold embossed title on the front and spine. Covers show moderate wear especially on the edges but the gold stamping is still good. The interior has some light foxing and discoloration from age. The front and back signatures are good with a small separation at middle front but nothing major.
The contents of the book cover Mr. Lincoln’s life, his assassination, the effect of the assassination on the country, the funeral in Washington and other cities, the cortege in Washington and Springfield, the rites at Springfield, the effect of the assassination in Europe, poems and the assassin and his end.
A rubdown of the covers and spine with a cotton ball and a light amount of Vaseline will clean them some and bring out the color of the cloth. It will also bring up some of the gold embossing.
