Here is a fine, original condition, iron muzzle sight, sometimes referred to as a front or forward sight, as used on most 12-pound field guns during the Civil War. The large iron sight was generally placed (screwed on) to the front top area of the gun tube and used to sight in the target. This sight measures 2 7/8” long and has an added ½” long threaded base. Device has a round base that tapers to a screwdriver-like tip. Iron gun sight exhibits traces of rust oxidation and threads are strong and sharp. This artillery accoutrement is a fine example of equipment used by the heavy artillery branch during the Civil War.
