LEATHER ARTILLERY WATER BUCKET

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 33-93

Bucket stands approx. 12.00 inches high. It meas. approx. 6.00 inches across the base and approx. 8.00 inches across the top. Bucket is of multi-piece construction and is completely made of leather. The body is one piece with a seam running down the side. This seam is held closed by a line of 25 copper rivets. These rivets are the same as those found on Civil War period leather goods. A circular piece of leather was cut for the base and is attached to the body by 40 copper rivets. There is a leather band approx. 0.75 of an inch wide that runs around the top lip of the bucket. 26 copper rivets hold this band in place. The band helps hold two leather loops that in turn hold two iron rings. These iron rings serve as a base for a leather handle approx. 1.25 inches wide and 12.50 inches long. All the rivets are tight. The body is crinkled some near the base but is otherwise in very nice condition. The band at the top shows some surface crackling but nothing serious. The handle shows signs of being dry with deep surface cracks however it is still fairly strong. Iron rings were painted black at one time but much of this has worn off, especially on the edges. This is a good, sturdy example of a leather artillery water bucket.
