Text:

“We command that the body of James B. Lamb detained by you and in your custody it is said together with the day and course of his being taken and detained. You have before the Circuit Court of the City of Petersburg at the Courthouse thereof on Thursday Dec. 1st 1864 there to submit to and receive all and singular those things which shall then and there be required of in this behalf. And have thee there this suit.

Witness E. M. Morris Clerk, of our said Court this 29th day of Nov 1864. In the 89th year of the Commonwealth.

This day, appeared before me, a Notary Public, W.  Sullivan, who made oath, that he had this day, delivered a copy of this writ to Lieut. Kinney. Petersburg, 30, Nov. 1864…William Robertson / Notary Public.

Kinney shows up online as “Thomas O. Kinney”, as a 1st Lieut. in Co. A, 44th Virginia Battalion.  A “G. Lamb” is also listed as a member of that regiment.

Solid Siege of Petersburg collectible. A reminder that along with the Confederate military, Civil authorities were also involved in dealings with captured Yankee prisoners. Invites further research. In protective sleeve. [jp] [PH:L]
