Kit comes housed in a brown leather case that when closed meas. approx. 7.50 x 8.50 x 2.50 inches. The back of the case has two “D” rings for attaching to a belt. The front has two white metal studs that anchor the leather tabs that hold the lid closed. The top of the lid has a leather carrying handle. The only visible markings are on the back between the two “D” ring mounts. The marking there reads “D. R. K. (aka DEUTSCHES ROTES KREUZ) SANITATSLAGER” over “BABELSBERG” with the number “33” off to one side. In English it reads “German Red Cross Medical Camp at Babelsburg 33. The town of Babelsburg is a suburb of Potsdam and is located just southwest of Berlin.

The exterior of the case shows light wear from age and storage. There are the usual rub marks and minor scratches on the body while the lid latch tabs show some wear, but overall the case is in excellent shape for its age.

When the kit is laid flat and opened, the raised lid has three small pockets and one large one. The first pocket holds a tweezers that is unmarked, the second holds a smaller tweezers that is also unmarked, the third holds a pair of medical scissors marked with a caduceus and crown. The large pocket holds a glass thermometer with a maker’s mark and the word “HEER” or “ARMY” in large letters. Thermometer is housed in a cardboard holder and is in excellent condition.

The bottom portion of the case has a collection of bandages. Two are marked as sanitized bandages and wrapped in black paper dated 1940, three rolled gauze bandages are wrapped in manilla paper, two hand plasters, 1 rubber tourniquet, three bandages dated 1937 wrapped in green cloth and tied with string, a small can of ointment, two gauze bandages rolled in manilla paper and unmarked and a boxed gauze bandage. Box slightly crushed.

All items are in very nice condition and are excellent for display.  [ad] [ph:L]
