Postcard has lettering that reads, "COMPLIMENTS OF MULDOWNY & McCOWATT / THE COLONEL SAMMONS MONUMENT". Picture shows a view of the Sammons monument. Reverse reads, "THE COLONEL SAMMONS MONUMENT/ ERECTED BY THE HON. JOHN H. STARIN. UNVEILED AUGUST 26th, 1899, UNDER THE AUSPICES OF HIS COMMAND, THE 115th REG'T, N.Y.S. VOLUNTEERS". Below this is an advertisement for clothing by Muldowny & McCowatt.
This monument is located in the Sammons family Cemetery in Johnstown, New York. The monument itself is quite striking with the bust of Simeon Sammons on the front and the coat of arms on the back. On both sides there is a large plaque with the family’s war history on it; regarding Col. Sammons it reads

GRANDSON OF SAMPSON AND SON OF THOMAS SAMMONS
BORN MAY 23, 1811 _ DIED MARCH 9, 1881.
HE RECRUITED, EQUIPPED & COMMANDED
THE 115 REG. N.Y. VOLS. WAS WOUNDED
IN THE BATTLE OF OLUSTEE. WAS IN
THE SERIES OF BATTLES AT THE SEIGE
OF PETERSBURG AND AT SPRINGING OF
THE BURNSIDE MINE AT THAT PLACE.
WHERE HE LEAPED OVER THE PARAPET.
CAUGHT UP THE STANDARD AND
PLANTED IT IN TRIUMPH ON THE WORKS
OF THE ENEMY. HE WAS AGAIN WOUNDED
IN THE BATTLE AT CEMETERY HILL.
HE SERVED MONTGOMERY COUNTY IN
THE LEGISLATURE AND WAS A DELEGATE
TO THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL
CONVENTION IN 1868.
