PAIR OF HORSE HAMES MARKED “US” & “WATERVLIET ARSENAL”

$275.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-1257

Hames are attached to a horse collar and are used to distribute the load around a horse's neck and shoulders when pulling a wagon or plough. The collar often supports and pads a pair of curved metal or wood pieces, called hames, to which the traces of the harness are attached.

This set of hames are made of black painted iron with leather and iron fixtures. One side of the hames is marked “US” and “SHORT” while the other is marked “USA” over “WATERVLEIT ARSENAL” and “SHORT.” About 80% of the original paint remains.

Leather is a bit dry and curled in places and its surfaces show light dirt. All appendages look to be present.

Don’t often encounter these with arsenal markings.  [ad] [ph:L]
