Pass boxes were used by the gunner to carry live powder filled cartridges bags from a magazine or caisson to the piece. This pass box is a leather cylinder, with a lid, and has a leather sling. The sling is two pieces with buckle. Unmarked. This measures approximately 14” high x 3 ½” in diameter. Sling adds and additional 22” to the overall length.
Leather on both box and lid has some minor surface cracking. Thin pull tab on top of lid is broken. All stitching is tight and unbroken. The strap shows moderate surface cracking and spotty finish loss which to be expected since the strap gets the most use. Overall this is in very good shape. [jet]
