Haversack is completely constructed of brown leather. It has a large body that measures approximately 12 ¾” x 13” tall and is sewn around the edges with a wide flap at top. The flap is held closed by an adjustable leather tab sewn to the underside of the flap and a roller buckle sewn to the outer haversack body. On the outer flap, just above the stitching that anchors the latch tab, is stamped “WATERTOWN / ARSENAL / 1864 / U.S.”.  The shoulder strap is sewn to the back of the bag and is adjusted by means of a large iron roller buckle. The width of the shoulder strap is approximately 1 ½” and is complete in length but has separated/torn in one spot.  The leather bag portion is in good shape and remains pliable; shoulder strap is weak. Stitching is intact and tight with the exception of about 4” on one seam. It does show some light signs of use with wear at the fold of the outer flap.
