Haversack is completely constructed of brown leather. It has a large body that meas. approx. 12.75 inches wide x 13.00 inches tall and is sewn around the edges with a wide flap at top. The flap is held closed by an adjustable leather tab sewn to the underside of the flap and a roller buckle sewn to the outer haversack body. On the outer flap just above the stitching that anchors the latch tab is the arsenal mark. It reads “US WATERVLIET ARSENAL” in three lines. The marking is clear and readable. Lifting the flap exposes the inside of the bag which is quite spacious. Attached to the back wall of the interior is another small flapped pocket. The shoulder strap is sewn to the back of the bag and is adjusted by means of a large iron roller buckle. The width of the shoulder strap is approx. 1.50 inches. The leather is in excellent shape. It does show some light signs of use such as light surface dirt and creases in the top of the flap and light wear from storage and age.
