EARLY MUSKET CARTRIDGE BOX

$325.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1202-01

Here is a pre-Civil War-era leather cartridge box that held 24 musket rounds. Constructed of heavy black leather, the box measures about 4 ¼” tall x 8 ½” long x 2 ¼” wide.

Outer flap features a scalloped bottom edge. There is a stamped brass ornament mounted on the center of the flap. Closing tab is complete and unbroken. There is no inner flap. The box contains a wood block drilled to hold 24 cartridges. They are the approximate size of a .69 to .72 caliber round. A small pouch is attached to hold loose flints. The bottom of the box retains a brass finial to hold the outer flap closed. Two 1-inch-wide belt loops are sewn to the back of the box; one is broken.

Overall, the box is in very good condition. Some surface crazing and light scuffing overall.

Interesting early musket cartridge box with block drilled for large caliber musket cartridges.  [jet] [ph:L]
