EIGHTH-PLATE TINTYPE SEATED VIEW OF 24TH MISSISSIPPI SURGEON WITH WONDERFUL PERIOD ID

Item Code: 1139-92

Image is of Dr. J. P. Loyd seated by a table. His left arm rests on the table top and in his left hand he holds a dark slouch hat. The Dr. wears a light linen duster which is open to reveal a light vest with dark piping underneath. The deep neck of the vest exposes his white shirt and dark bowtie. He also wears light trousers with a dark leg stripe.

The image is clear with excellent contrast. Behind the image is a period card with a period ink inscription that reads “DR. J. P. LOYD SURGEON 24TH MISS. REGT. C.S.A. FULTON, MISS.” Image comes with the decorative mat and frame but there in no case.

Unfortunately, not much has turned up in the records. J. P. Loyd was made assistant surgeon of the 24th Mississippi on an undisclosed date and was captured at Elk River, Tennessee on July 1, 1863. In August he was sent to the military prison in Louisville, Kentucky. By November 21, 1863 he was at Fortress Monroe awaiting exchange and that is where the records end.

The 24th Mississippi saw action at Perryville, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and Franklin. [ad] [ph:L]
