These brogans are in near mint condition and show only very light signs of use.
The leather uppers are supple and mostly clean with some very light wear marks along the edges. They are square toed with the tongue being an integral part of the front portion of the brogan. Heel has reinforced stitching while the instep has stitching and a white metal rivet on each side. There are four eyelets but no laces are present. The top edge of the leather starting above the eyelets and running around the ankle area has three very faint parallel lines.
Brown leather soles are pegged and tacked. Heels and toe areas do show wear from use but nothing that detracts. Each is marked “1/2 D SOLE” below a maker’s mark that is too worn to read.
Each brogan has a canvas insert that sits on top of the sole. One is marked on the underside with a faint “6.”
There are no visible marks inside either shoe.
All seams are tight.
Civil War brogans that were used and are still this nice are very hard to come by. [ad]
