This section of board meas. approx. 32.00 x 10.00 x 2.00 inches and was recovered during the 2012/2013 restoration of the well-known Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary. The Lutheran Seminary stands on the ridge that bears its name just west of Gettysburg. The cupola of the building was used as an observation post by General John Buford and General Robert E. Lee during the battle of Gettysburg.

Though the original cupola burned in 1913 this section of wood is from the access way to the cupola and not from the area affected by the fire.

This piece of board was secured, with permission, by one of the construction workers on the restoration project. The board is in good condition with several closed cracks on one side and a square head nail still embedded in the wood. A letter from the construction worker comes with the item to help authenticate the item’s history and origin.
