Being a native of Gettysburg, Wes is the youngest of five children born to Pat & Chet Small. He is a graduate of Gettysburg High School, Class of 1980, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from York College of Pennsylvania in 1984.
As a young child Wes started "eyeballing" relics in the fields around his parents home across the street from the famous Sherfy Farm located on the Emmitsburg Road. By 1971 at the age of ten, his father had started selling relics first from a small card table in the family room and the following spring in a small Dutch-style barn that the family built.
By the mid-1970's his father Chet, along with his brother Sam, started to attend Civil War shows and visiting dealers like George Lower, The Gettysburg Sutler, to buy and sell Civil War material. It was during this time that he “got the bug”.
After graduation from college with a business degree in management and gaining employment out in the business world, Wes began to hunt local auctions and flea markets looking for that lost treasure. By the spring of 1985 he decided to work full time in the family business.
Wes currently lives in Hanover, PA with his wife Linda and two daughters.
