John Peterson joined the Horse Soldier staff in 2000. In years prior he managed the Farnsworth House book shop, and was a sales associate with the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop in Chicago and The Military Bookman in New York. As an editor and writer, he edited the Farnsworth House commander series, and his essays have appeared in various national publications, including Harper's Magazine and the Kansas City Chief website. On the musical side, he is working up "Horse Soldier Banjo", a performance set inspired by legendary cavalry banjoist Sam Sweeney.
