Throughout World War Two the Luftwaffe experimented with various crash/flack helmets to protect pilots and aircrews. Siemens manufactured the SSK 90. The helmet was issued to aircrew members, but due to its bulk and weight, it was recalled from service after a month of use in 1941.

Offered here is the metal shell portion only. The completed helmet would have a cushion under the shell and the helmet body would have been covered in leather with a chinstrap similar to that found on a German paratrooper helmet.

This shell is in excellent condition with only minor surface rust. Inside the crown it is marked in three lines “8-41,” “15171,” “CAW.”

This is a rare flight helmet that would be perfect for any World War Two or aviation display.  [ad]
