Good condition “Ike” jacket made by the SEWELL MFG. CO. dated December 16, 1944 with a pattern date of May 10, 1944. The size is 36 regular. Exterior is in good condition with all the buttons present. The bottom edge of the left breast pocket has a tiny area of material loss. This area is approx. 0.50 inch long and is hard to discern. There are also one or two tiny moth nips in the sleeves.
Each sleeve has Tech-Corporal chevrons of white on a black backing. Left shoulder has European Theater of Operations patch while the left cuff has 3 overseas bars and 1 hash mark. Right shoulder has a 79th Infantry Division patch while the cuff has a Military Unit Citation wreath. Above the right pocket is a “Ruptured Duck” discharge patch. Collar discs are “U.S.” and Engineers. Interior lining is excellent with both pockets and a Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot tag.
The 79th Division arrived in France on June 12, 1944 and began combat on June 19th. The division is credited with 5 campaigns. They are NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE RHINELAND, ARDENNES-ALSACE and CENTRAL EUROPE. The Division suffered 15,203 casualties in those 5 campaigns.
