The top bar of this medal has an oak leaf garland and bow design. The reverse of the bar still has the original pin.
A solid red ribbon that meas. approx. 1.25 inches long x 1.50 inches wide is suspended from the top bar. The ribbon has light surface dirt with two small horizontal separations. Attached to this ribbon is a circular drop.
The obverse of the drop has an intertwined “OG” at the center of a cross shaped fort with 12 bastions. This is surrounded by lettering that reads “OLD GUARD SOUVENIR 1891.”
The reverse has “OLD GUARD” across the top with “VETERAN” at center. Across the bottom is “ORGANIZED APR. 9, 1880.” At very bottom is maker’s information.
