RELIC CIVIL WAR RATION CAN

$30.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 883-349

This tin can was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

It appears that the top was cut off with a can opener. Top edge is sharp and slightly jagged. Can has light rust throughout. Bottom of can is cracked around the edge where it meets at the base. Can is in good relic condition, mostly solid with just one small dent on the side.  [sm]
