This is an outdoor CDV view of the Aquidneck House Hotel where John Wilkes Booth stayed shortly before his assassination of President Lincoln and where he was believed to have been when the city of Richmond fell. The image shows the front of the hotel on a tree lined street with a horse drawn carriage parked in front and one or two pedestrians on the sidewalk. The image dates from around the 1870’s and is a little light in contrast. The paper is attached to a peach colored mount with clipped corners. The right edge of the mount has a modern pencil inscription that reads “”NEWPORT, R.I.” Reverse has collector’s information and a photographer’s back mark for WILLIAMS…NEWPORT, RI.
