Pipe features a carved image of a horse and hound. Measures approx. 6” long x 2 ½” high.
The beauty of Meerschaum pipes is in the detail. These fine pipes are made from a material that’s mostly found in Central Turkey and lends itself well to being carefully shaped and carved. The word "meerschaum" means "sea foam" in German, and refers to the natural white color lightweight quality of this material. Meerschaum is a porous mineral that absorbs some of the tobacco during use, which causes a gradual color change over time. They are unrivaled in beauty and intricacy.
The first recorded use of Meerschaum for making pipes was around 1723 and quickly became prized as the perfect material for providing a cool, dry, flavorful smoke. Meerschaum became a premium substitute for the clay pipes of the day and remains prized to this day. [sm]
