Here is an original, set of Civil War leather reins that are unmarked and measure approximately 98” long by ¾” wide. Black bridle leather is in good strong condition but does suffer from moderate insect damage on the face surface, in addition to cracking and light scuffing. Reins are made up of two lengths of leather that are joined together with a brass harness buckle and clasp. Rein ends are looped and secured with two additional brass harness buckles. Original stitching is still held tight in the leather loops. All stitching machine done. A good example of original equestrian Civil War leather reins.
