This is a very nice Confederate militia style tin drum canteen. The canteen is 6 ¼” in diameter by 1 ¾” thick. All parts are nicely soldered together. Both faces are flat. There is a 1" tall tin spout soldered to the top and three sling straps attached equidistant around the body. Remnants of old red paint overall with much of it worn off and scratched. Initials (3/4” tall) “JTP” are found in the center of one side. A thin leather sling remains in place. The leather has several weak spots. This type of canteen was carried over from the 1840s-50s and used by many Confederates in the Civil War. This canteen is in good solid condition with signs of wear and use. [jet]
