MINT GERMAN MAUSER KAR-98K SERVICE RIFLE

$2,600.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3686

Exceptional example of the standard issue 7.92mm service rifle used by the Germans in World War II. Principal markings include: “28543L” (serial number); “byf 44” (manufacturer’s code and year of manufacture); eagle over “WaA135” (military acceptance stamps); “C” and eagle over “18” (subcontracted stock manufacturer and military acceptance stamp).

The condition is exceptional with 99% of the blue and phosphate remaining; really Like New and Unissued! The bore is perfect and perhaps only test rounds were fired through it. The rifle is fully functioning and all the serial numbers match. This late-war example has a phosphate finished bolt and trigger housing/guard while the remainder of the rifle has blued parts – this combination of finishes is highly sought after by collectors.

As designated by the “byf” manufacturer’s code, the rifle was made by Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf am Nekar. The stock was made by subcontractor Dresden Tischfabrik Hermann Menzel. Mauser manufactured approximately 665,000 Kar-98K rifles in 1944; based on the serial number, this rifle was made in December 1944 (production in December was 53,878 rifles).

German Mauser Kar-98K rifles in this condition rarely come on the market! Excellent opportunity to own a collector grade classic German rifle made for the surprise Ardennes offensive of December 1944 that we know as the Battle of the Bulge!  [SK]
